Hearing God Speak through His Word

"But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word
in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance."
-- Luke 8:15 (NASB)

Nahum 3:17-18 • The Frailty of Institutions

Saturday, November 7th, 2009
“Your guardsmen are like the swarming locust.
Your marshals are like hordes of grasshoppers
Settling in the stone walls on a cold day.
The sun rises and they flee,
And the place where they are is not known.
Your shepherds are sleeping, O king of Assyria;
Your nobles are lying down.
Your people are scattered on the mountains
And there is no one to regather them.”
    —Nahum 3:17-18 (NASB)

If I were to fully divulge my life’s resume, a very strong case could be made to at least put me in the running for the title, “Super Patriot”. God used them as a tool of His judgment against many other nations, including the northern kingdom of Israel, but He never placed Judah on their list. They did that all on their own. In fact, they even went so far as to put into writing to Hezekiah at the time their own list of assertions that they were serving a name superior to Him. Nahum is actually God’s letter in response back to them.

Nahum 1:7 • A Stronghold and Refuge

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
“The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble,
And He knows those who take refuge in Him.”
    —Nahum 1:7 (NASB)

There’s a very sound military strategy that has been taught by renowned generals and experts since the beginning of time: Run away. It’s not a strategy rooted in cowardice, but rather in wisdom. It’s the succinct expression of the greater strategy that if at all possible, never meet the enemy on his own terms, but seek conditions most favorable to your self. The biblical equivalent is to retreat to the Lord because the conditions ALWAYS favor Him.
