The point of Walk with the Word is to hear God speaking personally through His Word, to make application to your life of what you’re getting out of His Word. So am I the only one that is getting struck across the brow every time I come across the word “wait” in Scripture? How did I come to believe that everything to do with Christianity is supposed to be an action verb when there are so many Scriptural references that are often contrary to that notion?

There’s an interesting, required biblical connection to the concept of redemption: obedience. Embodied within the biblical use of the verb “to believe” is the unmistakable condition that belief is proved by one’s heart and soul and mind being changed forever going forward. It entails a change of behavior on our part, that we will no longer live according to our own will as in the old life, but according to His will and Word as we proceed with the new. This is why the Day of the Lord will come and, at that very moment, even though they acknowledge Christ and even believe that He is King and Ruler and the Son of God, it will be too little, too late. Their behavior for their entire life leading up to that moment will have dictated a contrary outcome.

Trot out your Bible software or old fashioned concordance and see how many verses contain “day of the Lord” or the logical variations. It will be more than 30, and you won’t have to read very many to find that they consistently convey the same information contained in this instance from Zephaniah: it’s not something to be yearned for, looked forward to, and especially not anticipated in the same way as we do something like Christmas. The truth is that the time line of God’s plan for the universe goes irreversibly through “a complete end”.
