1 Peter 4:7 • For the Purpose of Prayer

"The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer."
    —1 Peter 4:7 (NASB)

If you believe we're living in the Last Days, if you believe you're witnessing the fulfillment of End Times prophecy, if you're sure beyond all doubt that His return is imminent, what should you do? How should one live their life?

Build a bomb shelter, stockpile food, make all suitable preparations to make sure you and your family will survive these times? No, "be of sound judgment".

Sell everything, dance crazy through the streets, make every kind of spectacle possible to capture the world's attention? No, "be of…sober spirit".

Get all the Christians together to pour over every book, movie and article on the End Times, change all lesson plans to cover nothing but the End Times, change church services to focus on the signs and events to come? No, we are to change "for the purpose of prayer".

How did Christ prepare Himself for Satan's temptations in the wilderness? Prayer. How did Christ prepare for His arrest, trial, and murder? Prayer. How did Christ prepare His followers for the changes that were to come? Prayer. How should we prepare for the biggest event not just of our lives but in the history of this planet?
