Nor are there any works like Yours.”
—Psalm 86:8 (NASB)
When a Muslim says that their god is the same god as the Christian God I do not give it much thought because I know their beliefs are rooted in error and therefore prone to propagating error. It is the same whenever I hear similar proposals from adherents of any belief outside the walls of Christianity. But when I hear such things offered by those claiming to themselves be Christian I never ceased to be amazed. Obviously such statements cannot possibly come from someone reading and believing their Bible, so I often wonder exactly what authority they derive their beliefs from.
There is a renewed spiritual movement theologically referred to as “Ecumenism”. It begins with the notion that Christians and Catholics should have never parted in the first place and that they can and should be reconciled back together again. It has backers with impressive credentials and influence on both sides of the aisle. But once you begin traveling down this path it begins to take people into even stranger places still, places like those described above where soon “every” god is proposed to actually be the same as the God of Israel and that there are many paths to God.
—John 14:6 (NASB)
I just felt like it needed saying again.†††
