What is “Journaling”?
Journaling is a splendid way to help us learn to meditate and reflect on God’s Word, as well as make personal application. Essentially it’s writing what God is putting on our hearts, particularly as it relates to His Word. Whereas a “diary” provides a detailed record of daily activities and events, “journaling” is a method of recording one’s thoughts, feelings, and insights into things. (Much more detailed information is available on the Walk with the Word web site at Journaling.) Whereas diaries are event oriented, journals are thought oriented. There are many examples of journals throughout church history such as those of Augustine, John Wesley, David Livingstone, et al. One contemporary model which we draw heavily from is Jim Elliot.
